ACNC Learning and Cognition Clinic
Learning and Cognition Clinic was established in 2008 at the same time with ACNC to provide therapeutic services and research programs with the purpose of using modern technologies and effective and consistence therapeutic methods. This clinic concentrates on issues resulted by learning, memory and attention deficiencies despite of normal IQ. Learning Disorders (LD) and Attention Deficiency-Hyper Activity (ADHD) are the most common disorders being assessed and treated in this clinic.
Symptoms of ADHD (inattention, impulsivity and hyperactivity) and LD (dyslexia, dyscalculia, and dysgraphia) are displayed from young ages and if not treated, they cause problematic individual, social, familial, and occupational issues in adulthood. In the past, the first approach for reducing problems resulted from attention deficiency, learning disorder and memory dysfunction was medication. Today, there are different alternative methods to medicine which can help to solve the problem without any side effects.
The following comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic services are offered at ACNC Learning and Cognition Clinic to enhance mental, educational, emotional and communicational skills:
1. Diagnostic Tests including:
a. qEEG (qualitative electroencephalography)
b. Woodcock-Johnson Tests of Cognitive Abilities
c. Attention Tests of IVA-II and CANTAB
d. Stanford-Binet and Wechsler Intelligence Scales
2. Technologic Therapies:
a. tDCS (Transcranial Direct-Current Stimulation) and tACS (Transcranial Alternating Current Stimulation)
b. Neurofeedback of Slow Cortical Potentials
c. CCRT (Computerized Cognitive Rehabilitation Training)
3. Non-Technological Treatments:
a. Occupation Therapy
b. Special Training for Learning Disorders
c. Psychotherapy
d. Group Parent Education
The aim of providing these services is to improve mental health of clients in their individual, social, educational and occupational lives –not to eliminate all symptoms of disorders. Considering client’s emotional and familial circumstances and keeping continuous interaction with school and family are the factors which enhance the quality and sustainability of therapy. This comprehensive approach for treating Learning Disorders and ADHD minimizes individual’s challenges to reenter the educational and occupational society and leads him/her towards independency and improved self-confidence.
Like other clinics at ACNC, therapy procedure at Learning and Cognition Clinic starts at Diagnosis Clinic. The specialized team at Diagnosis Clinic refers clients recognized with LD, ADHD and Memory Malfunctions to Learning and Cognition Clinic after they take the patient’s history and carry out diagnostic tests such as Woodcock-Johnson Tests of Cognitive Abilities, IVA-II and CANTAB. Therapy procedure begins after a free meeting with clinic manager to introduce the therapy and the process to the client. Throughout the therapy steps, clinic manager, deputy of therapy, deputy of research and neuroscience and the head of ACNC monitor the treatment protocols and quality of services.
